Slip resistant surfaces

Slip resistant surfaces are essential wherever ramps, entrances or walkways are exposed to moisture, dirt or changing weather conditions. Reduced grip can increase the risk of slipping, especially for wheelchair users, people with reduced mobility and pedestrians.

At Excellent Systems, slip resistant solutions are developed as an integrated part of ramp and entrance systems, focusing on safety, durability and long-term performance.

All standard ramps and tiles have a slip resistant surface, and then we have some add ons to make the surface even more slip resistant – namely SlipStop and Ice locks.

Slip resistant - SlipStop

SlipStop is a permanent slip resistant surface integrated directly into the ramps and platforms. It provides reliable grip in both dry and wet conditions and is designed for everyday use throughout the year.

SlipStop is used on customised access solutions and Ramp KITs where consistent traction is required. The surface is highly wear-resistant and does not require additional coatings or ongoing maintenance to remain effective.

Slip resistant - Ice lock

Ice lock is a slip resistant surface solution developed for use in cold and icy conditions. It is designed to maintain grip when frost, snow or ice would normally make surfaces slippery.

Ice lock is typically used at outdoor entrances, ramps and transition areas where winter conditions present a recurring safety challenge. The surface structure helps reduce slipping without the need for loose grit or frequent manual treatment, making it suitable for public buildings, schools and workplaces.

Maintenance and winter care

Even with slip resistant surfaces such as Ice lock or SlipStop, regular maintenance is still required to ensure safe use in all conditions. Dirt, leaves and snow can reduce surface grip if they are not removed.

Ramps should be swept regularly to keep the surface clean and free from debris. During winter conditions, it is important to remove snow and apply salt or other suitable de-icing materials to prevent ice formation. This applies to all access ramps, regardless of surface type.

Proper maintenance helps preserve slip resistance, extends product life and ensures that ramps remain safe and accessible throughout the year.
